The breakfast was decent for what it cost, even if there wasn’t much of it and no choice. Staff were friendly, though not professional. The room smelled damp and was a little dirty, and I found mouse droppings in the bathroom. We couldn’t connect to Wi-Fi because the network didn’t even show up, despite getting the password. You can only pay in cash. It’s okay for a single night.

It was surprisingly quiet, and the place felt farther from town than it actually was. Our room was clean and comfortable, with a pleasant little outdoor area. The hotel staff were very friendly.

We really liked the setting: rice fields all around, no houses nearby, and just a few minutes’ safe walk to the main street. The frogs in the fields were noisy at first, but we got used to them. The host was lovely and gave us useful recommendations. His wife made a great breakfast every day, with sweet pastries, excellent smoothies and a brilliant Sri Lankan omelette. We also enjoyed the rice and curry on our first night. The next two dinners were a letdown, though. The kottu and fried rice were the worst we had in Sri Lanka, with hardly any vegetables.

The food was delicious, and the rooms were lovely little spaces for the price. The owner speaks English very well and was a huge help. He shared tips and directions for visiting nearby ruins, then arranged a car to take us to our next hotel. Great value.

They can sort out a bike for exploring the ruins or a private car to take you wherever you need to go. Breakfast and dinner were both good, too. The place was clean, quiet and well kept, and the staff were friendly. I’d give it 4.5 if I could. Definitely recommend it.
