We stayed for one night in March 2025. The setting is right in the forest by the lake, so there are lots of mosquitoes. Bring good repellent. After dinner we walked around the grounds at night and saw lorises and other animals. The next morning, we went on another primate excursion in the ancient city of Polonnawura. We ate dinner together with Dr Dittus, who told us about his primate research. Dinner itself was simple but delicious. The rooms are basic and quite dated, though there’s now AC, which made sleeping much more comfortable. If you’re willing to get involved, you can learn a lot about primate life here. You do need to accept the ageing accommodation, and it seems a new building is planned.

This was my second visit, and I’ll definitely come back. Thank you all for the warm hospitality and lovely food! The friendly staff made us feel like family, and your hosts, Dr. & Mrs. Ditus, have spent much of their lives researching here, which adds a lot to the stay. If you enjoy nature, want to learn about primates and their behaviour, or just want some peaceful time, this is a place to consider. There are some amazing animal behaviours to see.

A lovely spot to spend a few relaxed days. The nature-loving staff were friendly and had lots of information to share. Breakfast is included, but plan to have lunch or dinner elsewhere. I enjoyed sitting by the lake for hours, lost in thought without being disturbed. Good experience, recommended.

A great place to be close to nature. I saw a mouse deer, a giant water monitor and several birds, as well as three elephants on the island across the lake. There are also bird watching, monkey and lorris tours.

You can learn about the world’s longest-running monkey study here, and there’s plenty of wildlife around to enjoy during a relaxing stay. The hosts were wonderful. Excellent place, highly recommend.
