You can reach the sightseeing starting point on foot, and Banana Leaf is close by too if you want a meal. The ruins are lovely to explore by walking or bike through the tree-filled park; we preferred that to paying about 2200 for a ride. Bikes are available to rent, and it’s possible to see everything in a day, though two days gives you time to take it slowly. The hosts, Daya aunty and her husband, were really nice. The host manager can arrange a jeep trip to Somawathi, around 50 km away, for about 6000 LKR. There’s also a place to swim about 2 km from the villa, near the 2nd canal or Deke Ala, though it’s somewhat secluded. The rooms are clean and comfortable, with an AC option, and the bathrooms were clean too. There’s parking for about three vehicles, and enough rooms for larger groups. A really convenient place to stay.

There’s parking available, and the old city of Polonnaruwa and other places are very close. The owner and the friendly group running the place make it feel safe for a family. It works well for independent stays, whether you’re traveling as a family or a group. Rooms come with or without air conditioning.
