The food was a real highlight. We added dinner and breakfast, and the Sri Lankan curries, egg hoppers, dhal, eggs, toast and bananas were some of the best local food we tried. The dining spot looks over rice fields where peacocks and herons wander. The owners were genuine and very helpful, and they arranged bikes and brought them to our room, which made things easy. It’s a lovely family-run guest house in a garden, with nice places to sit outside the rooms. It’s a short walk from the old town and clock tower. Our room was simple and clean, with hot water, AC and a comfortable bed. I’d seen it listed as number one in Lonely Planet for Polonuwara, and now I understand why.

There are rice paddies and plenty of trees all around, and the verandah is a great spot to relax. The couple hosting us were welcoming and helpful, and dinner was delicious, just lovely home cooking 👌

We were five in the family, and all of us would recommend this place. The hosts were friendly, knew the area well and were keen to help. Food had that excellent, authentic home-cooked feel, served on a terrace looking across the paddy field, with town sounds in the distance. It’s a peaceful spot, just a short walk from the clock tower junction where the bus stops.

The surroundings were peaceful, and the dependable service made it easier for me to settle in. The place was really what I had pictured, and I was very pleased with the condition of the living rooms.

The AC units weren’t working properly, and the rooms didn’t come with towels or bed sheets, so you have to ask for them separately. Also, watch the check-in and check-out times: both are set at 10 a.m., which I’ve only seen at this guest house. I honestly can’t understand the high ratings. At this price, it’s definitely not worth it.
