Mandala Villas

A lovely spot on Tangalle’s wild coast. The rooms and grounds have a chic, tasteful design and are very clean. Staff are especially friendly and attentive, and both breakfast and dinner were excellent. Good value for the money. It really feels like paradise.

Mandala Villas was the highlight of our Sri Lanka trip. We felt at home throughout, thanks to personal, attentive service from a team that clearly cares about their work. The rooms were spacious, spotless and had all the comforts we wanted. Outside, there’s a beautifully maintained pool and a near-empty dream beach, all in wonderfully peaceful surroundings. A huge thanks to everyone for an unforgettable stay. We’d love to return and would recommend Mandala Villas.

The grounds and rooms are stunning, the kind of place you don’t want to leave. But after visiting a few days ago, I can’t understand how the food could be so miserable. We had to keep leaving the peaceful property to find decent meals elsewhere, which really disrupted the atmosphere. Sri Lanka has incredible food everywhere, so this was especially disappointing. The restaurant dishes were inedible, and the prices felt outrageously high for what we got. It seems like a good chef is badly needed. One star may sound harsh, and I’m willing to change it if things improve. I’ve seen similar experiences in other reviews, though, and the owner doesn’t seem to take the criticism seriously. I’ll reconsider my rating if future reviews show improvement.

The staff made our stay easy, helping with whatever they could while giving us space. Breakfast and the other food were good. Rooms were fresh and clean, and the setting was beautiful, with a clean pool and good sunbeds beside a dramatic beach. The sunsets were gorgeous. It’s a wonderful place to relax and clear your head.
