Back of Beyond - Dehigaha Ela

We had three nights at Wild Haven, booked through our tour company, and the long drive down a dirt road was worth it. Each tree house feels private, with open platforms, polished wooden floors, and a bed under a mosquito net. Some bathrooms are on the same level, but ours was down a rickety staircase, so nighttime trips to the loo were interesting. The jungle sounds are all around, and fireflies may dance about after you turn out the light. The central sitting area is a short walk away, past a lily pond and through clouds of butterflies. WiFi is available there, but it’s very slow, and we had no mobile signal. The food was simple and fabulous, and the staff were lovely. Thoroughly recommend it.

The staff greeted us with smiles at the start and end of each day, and the food was absolutely delicious. Treehouses surrounded by wild nature made the setting feel special. It was a joyful, relaxing stay we’ll always remember fondly.

Manager Eranda, chef and wildlife expert Nihal, and the rest of the friendly, enthusiastic team made our stay. It’s a getaway in the wild, with wildlife all around and no TV. WiFi is only in reception, and we fell asleep to the sounds of wildlife. Don’t change a thing.

It’s a peaceful setting, and falling asleep in a treehouse to the jungle sounds was lovely. The place is further out from Sigiriya, but we had no trouble getting lifts to Lion Rock and Pidurangala rock for sunrise or sunset. Lovely place to stay, wonderful staff, and I’d definitely recommend it in Sigiriya 🤙
