Jungle Hut Resort Sigiriya

The people here were really sweet and hospitable. The place itself feels like a jungle, with lots of greenery, which suits anyone wanting that kind of stay. We arrived at night and it was pitch dark, so finding it was difficult. There was no internet or water service unless we called them each time to ask for it. Breakfast was just eggs and fruit, with no variety.

The kids really enjoyed the pool, and breakfast was simple but tasty. There was also a local Sri Lankan option, spicy but good. We stayed two nights, and the rooms with three beds worked well for our large family. Only one room had hot water; the other had water that wasn't very cold. The biggest letdown was the bedding and towels, which weren't clean even after we asked for fresh ones. The beds weren't very comfortable either, and we had to request toilet paper.

What made our stay so nice was the setting and the service. The staff helped us find a tuktuk to take us wherever we needed, and we had dinner at the hut one night. The food was surprisingly good, especially the devilled beef, which is worth trying. My partner and I found the room perfectly adequate, clean, air-conditioned, and with a nice bathroom.

We arrived at 6:30 with our kids, only to find that the upper floor rooms we had pre-booked for our two families had been given to another group. We asked politely, but they still wouldn't give us the rooms we had reserved. The manager was extremely rude, used abusive language, and threatened us with their “village thugs”. He only wanted to refund us in local currency, something their site hadn't mentioned. It felt like their main target was foreign money, and that was why we were treated this way. This was a very bad experience and I can't recommend the resort. Think carefully before paying an advance for a place like this.
