Pidurangala Hostel

The food was delicious, and I felt safe and welcome here as a woman traveling alone. The host was wonderful and genuinely seemed to want to help. He gave me free rides to nearby spots to see the sunset and sunrise Lion rock views, lent me a bike, and suggested a lake about a 30-minute ride each way. He was responsive and accommodating, and his suggestions were reasonably priced. I never felt pressured. The place is close to the attractions, and it even has a very cute tree house. I highly recommend staying here.

The hosts are a friendly, easygoing family who made me feel welcome. Breakfast wasn’t a huge meal, but it was included in the price, so that was fine. I did miss having a mosquito net or a fan in the room. The accommodation sits beside Pidurangala Rock, surrounded by nature, and has a restaurant and Wi-Fi. There are private huts for couples or families as well as a shared dorm. Everything else was great, and I’d recommend it if you want a peaceful stay near Sigiriya.

The host family were so friendly and helpful, and they even lent me a bicycle to explore the surrounding nature, which I recommend doing. Pidurangala Rock is about a 15-minute walk away. Waking up and stepping into the beautiful front yard was a perfect start to the day. Breakfast came with the stay, and there was plenty of it, all delicious. Dinner was cheap, filling, and good too. One of the best places I’ve stayed. 100% recommended!

We had the included breakfast, and it was amazing. They also served a welcome drink when we arrived. Lunch and dinner are made on request. I tried the chicken kottu and liked it. The place was peaceful. There are hostel options and a room to choose from. The owners are warm and nice, and Pidurangala rock is about 1 km away, so it’s a good base for visiting. You can rent a bicycle for the day, and there’s a shop just across the road for essentials.
