Pothana Village

Breakfast was extensive and delicious, and the staff were incredibly kind and helpful. They arranged activities for us, including an elephant safari and an early morning climb up Lion’s Rock, and everything went smoothly. The hotel is outside Sigiriya town, but getting around wasn’t a problem since the staff were always happy to organize transport. We had a wonderful stay. The hotel arranged a very luxurious airport pickup, and the owner’s son came to get us himself. He was waiting with a sign and drove us calmly and safely. A welcome drink was ready when we arrived. Our room was spacious and comfortable, with very good beds, and the hotel is a beautiful jungle resort with a large pool. We highly recommend it and would definitely stay again.

The overall hotel service was adequate with the resources they had, and we were welcomed with drinks and shown to our rooms. Still, our stay was disappointing because we expected better maintenance. One room had a broken TV and a fridge that didn’t work. Neither room was cleaned for the second night, even though we’d put out the signs requesting housekeeping. When we asked, they said they hadn’t seen the signs. We’d booked two triple rooms at Pothana Village for two nights and gave them a few hours’ notice before arriving. We were assured that both rooms would be ready.

The rooms are very large, though a little dated, which is fine for the price. We spent two nights here and were very satisfied. The staff are extremely friendly, and the food is delicious and beautifully presented. I can highly recommend Pothana Village.

The host, Dennis, and the staff made this place special. They helped with everything we needed. Dennis personally arranged excursions, drove us into town for dinner, and was available around the clock to look after us. The service felt like a five-star hotel or even better, because it was so personal and genuine. Their excursions were good value. Pothana Village was a very pleasant place to stay. The hotel is medium standard overall, but the location is beautiful, quiet, and surrounded by nature. The swimming pool was lovely for relaxing. The rooms were comfortable and perfectly fine, though we had no hot water on two of our three days. That was a small drawback and didn’t outweigh the rest of the experience. If you want to get away from noise and crowds and enjoy calm surroundings with outstanding hospitality, we highly recommend it.
