Hiru and his family were so kind and helpful, and that flexibility made my stay. He let me shorten it by a night when I felt there wasn't much more to see around Sigiriya. We talked through my plans at the start, then stayed in touch on whatsapp while I was out exploring. His dad drove me to the start of the Pidurangala sunrise hike, and his mother made one of the best breakfasts I’ve had in Sri Lanka. I could rent a bike to explore Sigiriya, and the next morning I went on a safari organised by his friend. I was able to invite a friend I’d met the day before, and we picked her up in Habarana. I was a little disappointed that dinner wasn't available at the homestay, but Coconut Shades next door served really good curry. The room was nice, though it got damp and humid quickly, so ventilate it during the day. Since it’s near the jungle, I had frogs and insects in the bathroom, which is normal for this area.

We stayed at Lahiru Homestay with a group of friends and felt at home straight away. It was a peaceful, welcoming place, and the hosts were incredibly kind. The rooms were clean and cozy, and we loved the homemade food, especially the Sri Lankan dishes. It was a great base for exploring the area, and the hosts gave us useful local tips and help. Highly recommended if you want an authentic experience in Sri Lanka.

The whole family made us feel so cared for and welcome, and they helped with everything. Breakfast was delicious too. We really liked the quieter location, with a lovely garden but still within reach of lots of places to visit around Sigiriya. Our room was clean and comfortable, with plenty of storage and nice chairs outside where we could sit and relax. We’d definitely come back.

This felt like a real homestay, with a kind, caring family who went far beyond what you'd expect from accommodation. I spent a couple of weeks here recovering from an accident and injury in Sigiriya, and they looked after me through a difficult situation. The property is wheelchair accessible, if you need that. It’s a good spot for exploring the area, and they can arrange scooter hire from the property. I’d say Sigiriya deserves more than two nights, there’s lots to see and do. After a busy day out, this is a nice place to unwind. I especially enjoyed afternoon tea on the veranda and sitting outside to spot wildlife. I highly recommend it if you'd like to meet a kind and caring local Sri Lankan family.
