The lower-floor room was dark and got very little sun, so I’d suggest picking one of the first-floor rooms. The personal pool looked great, but we didn’t use it. The main outdoor pool was lovely and warm, with a smaller shallow section our daughter loved, while the pool/jacuzzi was too cold to enjoy. Our room was large, with one double and two single beds; the bathroom was basic but worked fine. Breakfast portions were generous, and we could walk to a couple of excellent restaurants for dinner.

The photos really don't show how lovely this place is. Everything was spotless and well cared for, and the owners made us feel so welcome, going out of their way for us. We stayed two nights, from 30 Jan to 2 Feb 2026, with the family and loved the beautiful pool. Monkeys and birds wander around the grounds, too. The food was amazing. We couldn't recommend it more.

We felt right at home thanks to the lovely hosts. Our room was spacious and had everything we needed. It was a peaceful place surrounded by nature, with squirrels and peacocks about and fireflies at night. We highly recommend staying here.

The best meal I had during my six days in sri lanka was here :) We really enjoyed both the food and our stay. The room was clean, the bathroom was very spacious, and the place turned out much nicer than the photos suggested, in my opinion.

The photos give a pretty accurate idea of the hotel, and we had a great stay. The people looking after the lobby were kind and helpful, and spoke English quite well. We mostly got around by tuk-tuk, which suited us with elephants roaming around at night. For a genuine, hospitable stay with lovely scenery and delicious food, Water Cottage is a great choice.
