I was really happy to support this small family business. The guesthouse is lovely, and I enjoyed starting my mornings on the patio with tea, watching the light fall on the beautiful garden and spotting cheeky monkeys moving from tree to tree. There’s also a shop at the front with a big selection, from cold water, snacks and toiletries to souvenirs and lots of clothing. The owner, Sumudra, makes many of the clothes herself and was able to tailor a dress just the way I wanted.

The family who run this place are lovely and can’t do enough for you. It feels more like a homestay than a hotel, with a husband and wife managing it while their parents and children also live on site. Breakfast is home cooked and great. You’re about a 30 second walk from the beach, with a few places to eat nearby, so the location is spot on. The rooms are a little dated, but fine for the price. I’d happily stay again and hope we get back before Talalla gets much bigger.

I had booked two nights but left partway through my first night after the owner behaved in an extremely inappropriate way. I was the only guest there and was travelling solo as a woman, which made it even more unsettling. He sent me inappropriate messages, and even after I clearly said I wasn’t interested, he kept texting and insisting I should come over to him, along with other inappropriate remarks. I was polite, as I am with everyone, but he crossed serious boundaries. He still made me pay for the stay afterwards and tried to make me think his actions were acceptable. I have screenshots as proof, from before he deleted most of the messages. I strongly advise against booking here, especially if you’re travelling alone. Guests should feel safe and respected, and I felt neither. It’s so sad that I had this experience and had to write this.

I almost felt at home eating at Leisure Garden. Samudra cooked such delicious food with so much care, and she also makes dresses, jumpsuits and kimonos herself at fair prices.

Just four rooms, a restaurant, cooking classes and a shop, all run by a very friendly family. It’s a small, lovely resort, only 100 metres from the beach.
