Summer Lodge

We ended up feeling like part of the family, and those mornings and evenings spent eating and chatting with our hosts were a big part of the stay. When I got sick, they even made me special Ayurvedic treatments and juices, which felt really precious as a cultural experience. The place is quiet and well located, about a 5-7 minute walk from the beach. Our clean, pleasant room was upstairs on the second floor, with palm trees outside, and the bathroom was really spacious. They also found us adapters, extra towels, and whatever else we needed. Breakfast was a highlight: they cooked traditional Sri Lankan food and drinks, with a Western option for anyone who wanted it. Such a kind, helpful, friendly family.

The room had plenty of space, was nicely furnished, and the air conditioning worked well. The hosts were so accommodating, they even took care of my laundry. On my first day they showed me around town, and I got to try a traditional Sri Lankan breakfast that they made twice. It was delicious. I'd happily come back. Thanks so much! 😊

The location was good and the owner was friendly, but the room itself was a letdown after the glowing reviews and photos. The toilet seat was yellow-brown and looked extremely old and unclean. The sink tap was broken, though it still worked. On the balcony, the chairs looked pretty grimy, with some dried oily-looking stuff on them. There were holes in the mosquito net, and the fan looked rusty and not very reliable, even though it did work. With the windows open because of the heat, the street noise was awful. Buses, tuk-tuks and other traffic went right by, and I was waking up around 7 every morning. It felt like the cars were passing through the room. The Wi-Fi couldn't keep up with all the apps, and breakfast was okay but had no variety.

The hosts made us feel so welcome, and breakfast was delicious. We also had a place on the grounds to park our Tuktuk. Summer Lodge is right by the beach, and our big, clean room had air conditioning and fresh new sheets. The bathroom was spacious too, with a nice hot shower and fresh towels.
