Mirissa Seastar

We arrived with a confirmed Agoda booking for New Year’s Eve, but the hotel told us it had been cancelled. We were three couples with three small kids, and my son’s birthday was coming up on 2nd January. They gave us no warning and no apology. We were left on the street with the children, trying to find somewhere to stay. When we challenged the staff, one arrogantly told us, “Do whatever you want, I don’t care about reviews.” It felt like they’d cancelled because someone else offered more. They ruined our holiday and my son’s birthday. Greedy, dishonest, disgraceful. Avoid Mirissa Seastar Hotel. Look at the other reviews which are done by local people, how shameless they are.

We were the only two people in the restaurant, but the service and food were a mess. My beef burger order took 30 minutes before we were told they had no beef. I can’t tell if they spent that time trying to buy some. I switched to fish and chips and was told ten minutes. After 25 minutes, they brought shrimp and calamari, claiming it was the fish. We’d asked them to remake my wife’s chicken burger so it would be hot, but it sat on the kitchen counter and came out cold. The cook seemed to have no idea what he was doing. They also added an automatic 10% tip. It’s poorly managed and they don’t care because it’s in a tourist area. We were very disappointed, as two Canadians. Overpriced, bad service, disappointing food. Avoid.

The food was poor too, with soggy chips and cold pizza. At Sea Star Mirissa we were served an old bottled wine that had turned vinegary and was impossible to drink. We asked for another bottle, but the manager and staff were rude and accused us of having already drunk it and trying to exchange it. We couldn’t even take another sip because of the taste. Terrible service and bad quality. Avoid this place.

Avoid Mirissa Sea Star. The cocktails were bad and tasteless, and the service was even worse. We waited more than an hour for some dishes, and 35 minutes just for a beer. We ordered a brownie and got a milkshake instead. When we left after waiting an hour for portions and sodas that never arrived, they charged us anyway. Worst service we had on our two visits to Sri Lanka. A V O I D!!!
