The Fat Mermaid

We only booked one night at the Fat Mermaid, my friend and I, but could easily have stayed for a week. BK, the owner and host, welcomed us like family and was incredibly hospitable. The atmosphere was great, and you can see the care he's put into the place. Our room was spotless and had what we needed, including hot water and AC. Cafes and restaurants are all around, and some lovely beaches are close enough to walk to. We had a great time here. I'd absolutely recommend it, 10 out of 10.

The rooms made a strong impression: spacious, with huge comfortable beds, full A/C, ceiling fans, and nicely finished showers and en-suites. I was there for three nights and found the place comfortable and good value for its location. The Fat Mermaid is a small, stylish boutique residence with just three rooms, which means Bathiya, the owner, can give very personal service. He's a talented cook, too, making delicious light breakfasts, lunches, and dinners, and nothing seemed like too much trouble. He's also bought electric scooters that guests can hire by the day for sightseeing.

We enjoyed the food, which looked as good as it tasted, and the staff were friendly and accommodating throughout our few nights there. The owner was warm and shared some great stories along with useful tips. It was a fantastic stay from beginning to end. We're coming back in December and have already booked a longer stay at the Fat Mermaid.

Bathiya made excellent breakfasts, and took care to make sure my wife's meals were gluten free because of her allergy. He was also a great host and a really good conversationalist. My wife and I spent three nights here in Mirissa. The room had AC, a comfortable bed, and an electric shower, while the WiFi worked very well for work and video calls. It's well placed for the beach and Mirissa's main attractions. We enjoyed our stay so much that we really didn't want to leave.
