Banana Bunks Mirissa

The location was great, and the onsite staff were friendly and tried to help when we raised our concerns. Management, though, didn’t respond, wouldn’t compromise, and could be extremely rude. We’ve never had an experience like this, especially in Sri Lanka, where the people are usually impossible to fault. The room was noisy and poorly maintained, and the price was extortionate for what was essentially a hostel room. The Booking.com listing was very misleading: there’s no pool onsite, and the “superior double room” we booked turned out to be a hostel room with three beds. We don’t usually leave bad reviews, but this stay was genuinely awful. Please avoid.

The only small downside was the outdoor bathtub, which had quite a lot of plants and insects around it. Saman was attentive to everything, brought us incense to keep the bugs away, and was always smiling and ready to help. Asanka looked after us too, greeting us by name each time we went into the Petti Petti Club (the hotel’s beach club). He remembered our names from the first day. Everything else went smoothly, and the room was beautiful, spotless, and very comfortable. The bed and room temperature were just right, the bathroom was lovely, and the outdoor shower was spacious. It was an unforgettable stay, and I truly hope to come back one day 🌸🩷

Banana Bunks was so peaceful and green, tucked among banana trees that made it feel like a little jungle. The outdoor bathtub was a lovely touch, and the staff were all friendly and made me feel safe and at home. The rooms were clean, and the place had everything I needed. It’s quiet but only a few minutes’ walk from the beach, cafes and Coconut Hill, so the location worked perfectly. I loved our few days there and would definitely stay again!

Book a room with breakfast if you can. You get to spend the whole morning at Petite Petite, the small club opposite, where you can swim, enjoy the sea view and have breakfast. It was so nice, I wish I could’ve stayed longer 😍
