After booking a double room with breakfast and AC for $4 a night on Booking.com, I got a WhatsApp message offering safaris in the nearby national park. I only wanted the room, but the owner told me they only host people who also book a safari through the accommodation. The tours are overpriced, in my view. It feels like a scheme to draw people in with extremely low room prices on booking websites and then sell them overpriced safari tours. Be careful. You might be better off paying the usual room rate somewhere else and arranging your safari separately.

Awesome 👍. So much wildlife to see in this forest reserve, with herds of elephants and lots of babies grazing in their natural habitat. We also saw plenty of birds, peacocks, monkeys, crocodiles, spotted deer, wild buffalo and more. Wildlife lovers could spend the whole day watching the animals. It was well maintained, and the washrooms were clean and neat too. The people driving into the sanctuary were warm, like most people in Sri Lanka. A unique, outstanding experience 👌👍

I booked two rooms through booking.com well ahead of time, then called the hotel two days before my visit to confirm. The owner told me they had no availability and was extremely arrogant. One of the most unprofessional places I've booked. DO NOT TRUST the owner or hotel.

I had a very good one night stay while visiting the national park. The owner was friendly and even did my laundry when I asked. Breakfast was great, the beds were comfortable, and the room had a nice bathroom, air conditioning, and a refrigerator.

The place itself is really clean and right in town, and the rooms are spotless and good value. The owner was nice and helpful, and helped us get a good deal on the udawalawa safari.
