Galle Henna Beach House

The beach is a couple of minutes away on foot, though there's no direct access from the property. Tuk-tuks wait right outside, local buses run nearby, and a few cafés and restaurants are an easy walk away. Unawatuna, with plenty more places to eat, is about 3 km away. Tharindu and Chathu made our stay at Galle Henna Beach house feel special. The rooms were spotless and roomy, opening onto a wide shared balcony with a lovely view. Breakfast was laid out promptly each morning, with fruit cooler, toast, butter, marmalade, eggs made to order, cut fruit, and tea or coffee. They also arranged a Sri Lankan breakfast when we asked. We ate other meals around Unawatuna and Galle. The team were friendly and helpful, from renting us a bike to keeping the room and property sparkling and sharing local tips. The house sits on the main road with a clear Indian Ocean view. I expected mosquitoes after seeing the room photo, but we didn't encounter any, perhaps because of the season. One thing to know: all the rooms are up a flight of stairs above the living and dining area, with the stairway along the garden, so this isn't wheelchair accessible.

It has such a relaxed feel, almost like being out in the middle of the sea. From the first-floor balcony you look over the beach, and there's a little circular pool made of stones that you can reach by going down the stairs from the house to the beach. The rooms are roomy and comfortable, with their own bathrooms. Friendly people, good food, and a lovely spot for a warm, restful getaway. 👍

We really enjoyed our two nights here. The rooms were clean and comfortable, breakfast was very good, and the staff were genuinely helpful. The ocean-facing terrace is beautiful, with the beach only a few steps away. An amazing place to stay in Unawatuna!

We felt especially well looked after by Chatu. Even after we left Galle Henna Beach House, he arranged activities for us around the country. It was reassuring to have someone we trusted in Sri Lanka, including if an emergency came up. The balcony looking straight out over the ocean and Unawatuna Bay was just amazing. Our room was modern and very clean, with its own bathroom tucked behind the bed. Breakfast was great, and the host was happy to serve traditional Sri Lankan dishes. The staff were all friendly and focused on making the stay a good one. After two weeks in Sri Lanka and several different places, this was easily our favorite stay. It's at the quieter south end of Unawatuna Beach, while the restaurants and nightlife are there when you want them. A tuk-tuk can take you into town. The best hotel experience I could imagine!
