The pool was clean and well cared for, with extra towels available, and we enjoyed cooling off there. The garden was lovely and relaxing too. We had a spacious room with a large bathroom, air conditioning, a hairdryer, fridge and kettle. Melani welcomed us with a refreshing drink and let us know we’d been upgraded, which was a nice surprise. Her staff were friendly, and we had a tasty, generous breakfast each morning, with a mix of Western and Sri Lankan food that changed a little each day. We didn’t try the dinner options they offer. We wanted somewhere quiet, and Villa Gaetano suited us well, away from Unawatuna’s main resort area. There are a few restaurants within walking or tuk tuk distance. The town and beach are about a mile away, reachable along the main road on foot or by tuk tuk. Unawatuna train station is walkable, while Talpe is about 650 by tuk tuk. We took the train from Unawatuna to Galle, just two stops and 20 LKR each. We used pick me to get there, and Melani arranged a tuk tuk to Talpe when we checked out. Payment is cash only.

I slept really well here, even though noise usually bothers me and makes sleep difficult. The place was so peaceful and quiet. I stayed for two nights, and the spacious room was clean, comfortable and well equipped. The family who run it are incredibly kind and welcoming. Breakfast was excellent. For my first few days in Sri Lanka, it was better than I expected.

The homemade food was delicious, and we enjoyed every meal. There’s also a quiet corner that worked perfectly for yoga and relaxing. We stayed four nights at Villa Gaetano in Unawatuna as two couples, and wished we could have stayed longer if our plans had allowed. The hosts were warm and caring from the start, making us feel like part of the family. The property feels homely, with a lovely pool, peaceful nature and animals around. Renting a scooter is a good idea for getting around from this location. We left feeling relaxed, cared for and grateful for the heartfelt hospitality. We’d highly recommend it to anyone looking for a warm, family-like and authentic stay in Unawatuna.

The family and staff were so kind, and they made us feel at home. They helped arrange tuk tuk rides and a taxi to our next destination. Breakfast was great too. We loved the peaceful setting, well-kept grounds, big room and welcoming atmosphere. We were looked after from the moment we arrived at Villa Gaetano, and we’ll stay with them again when we return. We were sad to leave, and it was a lovely start to our trip. Definitely recommend it.

Melanie and her family welcomed us and took such good care of us. Her food was made with so much heart, and it felt like coming home. This was our first stop in Sri Lanka, and my family had a great stay. The location is close to Galle and the beaches. Thanks to Melanie and her family for introducing us to Sri Lanka and sharing tour recommendations.
