Budget Central

It was warm and central, with two proper beds, doors that locked, and a hot shower, which made for a decent night after being out in freezing weather. The staff were friendly and offered us an upgrade for €5 when we arrived. The first room wasn’t nice, and the upgraded one had a bad smell and hadn’t been cleaned properly. Hair on the sheets, an awful odor from the bathroom plumbing, and door handles coming loose.

The photos on the profile were completely different from what we found, and there were bed bugs in our room. When we asked for our money back, the owner refused. After our first call, they stopped answering altogether. The man at reception also wanted to photograph our IDs, which I understand is against GDPR law. This was the worst experience of my travels. I strongly don’t recommend staying here.

For what you get, it’s really cheap, and the location is hard to beat, right in the old town beside Cathedral Square. The hostel is on the first floor of an old, stylish building. You climb a metal staircase to get there, which adds to the feeling of being in an older place.

The room was right by the exit door, which had a broken lock, so anyone could get into the building. It was noisy, and people tried our door several times. We couldn’t find staff at reception when we had questions, and we didn’t feel very comfortable. The location was ideal, though the room itself was disappointing and not very clean. We paid extra for a late check-in and appreciated their help with that. When we asked for two sets of keys so my friend and I could go our separate ways, they said we could manage with one. The guy was nice and did try to help, but that response didn’t feel great.
