Youth Hostel Esch/Alzette

The hotel didn’t feel very clean, and I wouldn’t recommend it. Food was really bad, and getting a meal meant waiting and bringing other people along. They only served meals when enough people were there, which is ridiculous. Breakfast was very limited, just cheese and salami, not an open buffet. Some staff were nice, but others were rude.

Everything was great, and the place was very, very clean. The staff were great too, thanks to all of them. If I had to pick one thing, it’s that check-in could sometimes be more flexible. Otherwise, I couldn't find anything to dislike.

The food was tasty, well prepared and served in a generous portion. The potatoes were overcooked, but that wasn't too bad. The hostel was incredibly clean and, though it’s seven years old, feels new everywhere. The staff were another story. Most were miserable and frustrated, and came across as nasty, miserly and controlling. They spoke and behaved rudely, disgustingly and insultingly toward me, including to my face. Many seemed unfamiliar with basic respect and treated me like subhuman garbage.

The staff were fabulous. There were lots of long-term tenants, which gave the place a strange vibe. The shower had no fan, so it was wet and smelled bad the night I was there.
