Sporthotel Leweck

We met here with former classmates, and it was a big rip-off. We’d booked an all-inclusive deal with a three-course menu and alcoholic and soft drinks, supposedly available from 5 pm to midnight. When two of us arrived at 7, nobody served us, so we had to go to the bar to ask for drinks. At dinner, we also had to keep asking for our empty water bottles to be refilled. I chose the carpaccio with « feierstengszalot » from the three starters, but the « feierstengszalot » never arrived. Three of us were lactose-intolerant and one was gluten-intolerant. When we asked for dessert without vanilla ice cream, the same waiter replied in a very unfriendly, severe, even rude tone: « est-ce que vous avez mangé le risotto??? » and « bein, alors vous avez tous mangé des menus avec lactose!!! » After dessert, we tried to order drinks, but the waiters ignored us and even took away wine bottles that weren’t empty. When we asked again, the waiter said, « vous voulez boire encore??? » We waited another ten minutes, then were told we had to move to the bar to be served. We went over at 23:30, and a waiter finally served us at 23:50. Nobody drank anything close to the two-thirds of the price we paid, with food included. Never again.

The cocktails were good, and the hotel has great views with a nice blend of old and new. There’s potential here, but we often felt unwelcome, almost as if we were bothering the staff or were disposable. At check-in, we got no guidance about what to do nearby, pool hours, booking the spa, or checkout time. The room was spacious and okay, but the thin mattress and single flimsy pillow made the bedding poor. There wasn’t even a kettle, and I couldn’t find evacuation instructions. The restaurant was very expensive for food that wasn’t particularly tasty, so I wouldn’t recommend it. Breakfast was limited and nothing special. The small pool is fine, though there isn’t much room for actual swimming, and the area gets busy quickly. The parking is across a road where cars go fast and visibility is zero. A walkway should definitely be added. There’s plenty to improve before the prices feel justified.

The main problem at Lewa North Hotel’s restaurant is the price. The food was competently made and decent, a little above average, but there was no memorable highlight or spark. The bill is at the level you’d expect from a three-Michelin-star place, and the meal doesn’t come close to justifying it. It isn’t a bad restaurant, but if you’re paying that much, it falls short of the culinary artistry and innovation the price suggests.

The man at reception was incredibly kind and helpful to us, and deserves a raise. We loved the stay: the food was good, the room clean and nice, and the swimming pool and spa area were amazing.
