Youth Hostel Schengen Remerschen

The rooms were more spacious than at other youth hostels I’ve stayed in, and it was a quiet, peaceful place with nice staff and a good breakfast. I had a couple of uncomfortable encounters with other guests, though. One woman from another room saw me in the corridor and immediately blamed Indians for the noise the previous night. It wasn’t coming from my room, and was probably from rooms with children. A roommate also seemed to have an issue with people of my skin colour. When she saw me, she acted like she urgently needed fresh air, then shouted that I shouldn’t use my phone to make a call around her. These things happen to minorities, and they’re about people’s attitudes, not the hostel. I’d still say it’s a good place to stay. Just ignore what you can.

The building is lovely and clean, and the staff were really helpful. But the basics were a letdown. My main issue was the heat: there was only one medium-sized window that opened a crack, and with no AC or fans, the room had very little airflow. I had a very hot night. That might be different in rooms with balconies. Also, there were toilets in the room, but no soap for washing hands. Calling that the “hostel spirit” seemed unsanitary to me. I’d have thought being able to prepare my own food would fit that idea, too, but there are no shared cooking facilities because of the restaurant.

The bus stop right outside makes it easy to travel for free to Schengen or farther north. On the way, you pass lots of beautiful vineyards. We enjoyed our stay at the Youth Hostel in Remerschen, in a great spot in the south of the Moselle region. The staff were super friendly, and both the rooms and common areas were clean and offered basic comfort. I’d recommend adding curtains beside the beds and having fruit at breakfast, too.

The staff were so nice, the rooms were clean, and breakfast was good. The area is beautiful, with lots of wineries, though the hostel is a little far out. Transit is an option. I took buses 412/413 and 432.
