Aux Tanneries de Wiltz

We had room 303 beside the river, and the sound of the water made for a good night's sleep. The room was clean, if a little dated. Breakfast was good, and parking beside the hotel was easy. We skipped dinner there. There’s a supermarket about a two-minute walk away. The TV also had movies with audio translated from English into German or French.

I slept well, with hardly any outside noise, and the rooms and facilities were perfectly adequate. The staff were excellent, friendly and welcoming, and seemed to be working nonstop. There’s plenty of parking for cars or motorcycles. Breakfast was superb, with lots of choice, from continental options to bacon and eggs. Dinner was a letdown, especially the fish. This wasn’t my first visit, and it won’t be my last.

We never actually stayed, but booking through Wonderbox was a very disappointing experience. Before using the voucher, we checked the hotel’s official website for dates 15-17, and it showed two nights available to book. Neither Wonderbox nor the hotel site mentioned a minimum stay or any Wonderbox-specific limits. After we were committed to the voucher and had paid an extra €100 on top of the gift box, we were told standard rooms weren’t available for those dates, that a three-night minimum applied, and that there was another €125 supplement. None of this was explained upfront. We contacted the hotel to explain, but never got a response.

The room was clean, the bathroom spacious, and breakfast was good. Having the pool and sauna available was a nice extra. But the reception staff let the stay down. I’ve never had hotel staff greet me with “what do you want” instead of asking how they could help, and there wasn’t even a hello. They also mishandled my sauna booking, didn’t have the key, and said nobody was there, though there was someone there.
