Historic Ainaži is a splendid village, and the beaches are a short walk away. From here, day trips to Riga, Pärnu, Sigulda, and plenty of other places are easy. The surrounding landscape is gorgeous, and the house is wonderfully quiet. Design Apartments Jūrmāja is in our worldwide top five places to stay. It’s spacious and airy, with loads of thoughtful details and amenities. We loved the combination of historic features and a modern kitchen and bathroom, especially the excellent shower. The garden and outdoor areas were lovely, and we ate outside most evenings. We were a large group and had the hot tub and sauna heated twice during our week there, which was great fun for the kids and adults alike. The host was kind and easy to reach the whole time. The house and apartments have been renovated beautifully, with real respect for the building's historic details. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen and bathrooms modern, and everything was clean.

We would have liked to stay longer and explore the area more. On our way out, we drove the old road to Pärnu, a route we only knew about because of the hosts' guidebook for guests. We stopped here while traveling from Poland to Finland. The apartment is huge, keeping the building's old style while still offering modern conveniences, and the hosts are a great bunch. Finding local craft beer in the fridge was a lovely touch. The price seemed average for the area.

Quiet and with a beach nearby, this is a lovely weekend getaway. The owners are super nice, and the old captain's house is freshly renovated and nicely decorated. It's well equipped with everything you need.
