Kārklu Muiža

The beds were comfortable, the rooms spacious and clean, and the view was great. I slept better than I had in ages. We booked three double rooms for three nights. The shower was big and clean, but there were just two small sachets of gel for two adults over the whole stay, and we used those on day one, so bring your own. The towels weren’t refreshed. Breakfast was tasty, with a good selection for adults and kids. Lunch can be ordered on request, but options are basic and it took too long. The location may not be ideal if it’s your first time in town, though it isn’t too far if you’re driving.

The place itself is really nice, and the service was good. My sleep, though, was completely ruined by the nearby railway. The noise and vibration from long freight trains went on for ages as they passed. Jelgava is a major rail hub, so just as I started to doze off, another train seemed to be coming. In summer, the frogs croaking constantly in the nearby pond added to it :). It’s not a bad place for an overnight stay, hence the five stars, but there’s that catch.

We arrived very late, at 2 am, and the staff member was extremely friendly and showed us where our room was. I was amazed by that, since I’d only had that kind of help in bigger hotels before. I would have stayed another night, but had to return to my country.

The garden was nice, the price was good, and breakfast was fairly good. The staff were very nice too. It seems like a nice place for a wedding or similar event. I was just using it as a base while visiting other places.
