Guesthouse Airava

The location is hard to beat, just steps from Jomas street, with shops and restaurants nearby, two grocery stores across the street, and Majori train station 5min away for an easy trip to Riga. Parking fits tens of cars, and the owners don’t mind if you leave your car before or after check-in, since everyone spends the day at the beach. It’s a large, bright building with shared bathrooms, showers, and kitchen, and massive clean rooms. I love the place and this was my second stay. I’d choose it again. It’s simple, basically like a hostel, but super clean, tidy, and functional. The rooms are ascetic but ornate at the same time. There are single beds for as many people as the room holds, doubles or triples, with a little side table and chair for each, plus a simple desk and a closet. Sheets and a towel are provided. The rooms were majorly renovated during covid, so the paint is fresh and the mattresses are totally fine. The shared kitchen has two small fridges, two single burner stoves, a kettle, a sink, and plenty of plates, cups, and cutlery. There are several plastic outdoor tables and chairs for everyone to use. My only complaint is the complete lack of WiFi on the second floor. At first I thought there was some, but nope. If you have a local data plan, it won’t be a problem. Without one, you have to go downstairs to the common room or hallways to connect, which is very annoying and frankly unacceptable nowadays. We had one room on the first floor and two on the second. The first floor room next to the router worked fine, so request a room on the 1st floor and enjoy your stay. The bathrooms are only on the 1st floor too, which could be hard for anyone with walking issues if they’re staying upstairs. I’ll stay again and strongly recommend it.

The place has an old-fashioned feel, but it’s lovely, clean, and right in the center of Jūrmala. We enjoyed breakfast outside in the sun, even with a nice restaurant just around the corner. The staff at the front desk were very kind, the kitchen had everything we needed, and they were always happy to help with questions or problems.

A reasonable option if you’re traveling on a tight budget and don’t expect a four-star stay. The location is great, near the beach and main boulevard, and the room was clean and fairly spacious, with old-style furniture. There are shared shower rooms for men and women, plus a guest kitchen with a fridge, oven, and other basics. The staff were friendly and spoke Russian.

Loved the glimpse of the past. It feels authentic!
