The kitchen was excellent, though the dishwasher was missing its cutlery holder. The staff were helpful and service minded, and the beds were great. Stylish, comfortable hotel in a quiet, safe spot close to the city centre. We’ll be back for both the hotel and Riga.

We found plenty of comfortable places to sit and relax outside our room, and the hotel felt calm and safe throughout our four nights. The customer service was quick, friendly and welcoming, too. The location is ideal, in what we think is Riga’s prettiest area. Three Brothers, House of the Blackheads and lots of Old Town architecture are just a short walk away. Since the hotel is in the Old Town, we parked about 200 metres away in a public lot. It cost 2€ an hour, with free parking from 20:00 to 8:00. We used the EuroPark app and found a space each day without trouble. We stayed in a standard room at Carillon Aparthotel with my husband, and came away surprised by how much we liked it. The room was quiet, with no noise from other rooms, and the firm mattress was comfortable. There was plenty of storage, so a longer stay would be easy, and the kitchen had what we needed to make breakfast or dinner. It even had a dishwasher and washing machine, with washing tablets provided. There’s also a separate laundry room with a washer and dryer. The thoughtful details made the place feel luxurious and let us relax. The design furniture and quality materials stood out, right down to the premium knives and forks. The pots were stainless steel, and the Hexacore pan was a pleasant surprise. Bathroom lighting was just right for doing makeup. Soft, warm towels and bathrobes felt good on the skin, unlike the rough ones you get at many hotels. The corridors and staircases have a lovely old-meets-new look, with original tiles and a modern, luxurious touch. The whole concept feels carefully put together, with comfort in mind and local products and design furniture in use. For the price, this kind of quality feels almost unbelievable. We’re already planning another visit, this time with friends.

The buildings have real potential. It’s great to see two historic Old Town houses renovated so beautifully inside and out, and the central location and interior design were highlights for us. But our time in room 512 became a small nightmare because some things that look good just don’t work well. The wardrobe and drawers had awkward handles with very little grip. There was also a sharp metal shelf in the shower right behind your back, which is a ridiculous and dangerous spot for it. I accidentally switched on the rain shower while thinking I was turning the water off, pulled back instinctively and bruised my hand on the shelf. The biggest problem was the heating. It was winter in Latvia, and despite the floor-to-ceiling windows, the room had no radiators. Temperature was controlled by forced ventilation. Even with the blower set to 0 and the panel temperature turned up, cold air kept coming through the vents and left the room feeling constantly drafty. It was so uncomfortable that we woke at 3 AM with sore throats and headaches, checked out and called a taxi home so we could sleep properly. The hallway just outside, with proper radiators, felt much more comfortable. With the ventilation sorted out and the badly placed, dangerous bathroom fixtures fixed, this place could make for a comfortable winter stay.

A real gem among Baltic hotels, with a wonderful location and outstanding design. I’d recommend it to anyone who enjoys quality and Art Deco or Art Nouveau style.

Good value for money, and the location is great.
