The Marina area is a real highlight, with waterfront restaurants, shops, a boat launch, and lovely views. It reminded me of somewhere like Maui, Hawaii. The marina’s multi-level villa-style places to stay are impressive too. I’ve stayed at Al-Andalus Hotel (Four Points by Sheraton) Tripoli many times, and it’s still my first choice when I’m in Tripoli. The waterfront and city views make for a calm setting, and the hotel is consistently clean and well maintained. Staff are warm, professional, and attentive from arrival onward. On a few visits, management has surprised me with a bowl of fresh fruit. For me, this is the best hotel in the capital, with a luxurious feel and a Western standard of service that’s hard to find elsewhere in Libya. Five stars all around.

Prices seem reasonable, and I thought the hotel was pretty good. Some parts appeared to be undergoing upgrades, though I couldn’t try all the hotel’s offerings because I visited during Ramadan. A few things could make the service better: online booking and card payments would be useful, and rooms could have booklets explaining the hotel and its services. I’d also suggest more staff training on communicating with guests.

The food was generally great, and I even tried lunch. The free breakfast buffet had plenty of variety, with professional and friendly staff. I’d like more hot drinks on the menu, though, and the coffee machine needs an upgrade. The coffee wasn’t very good. I stayed for more than a week. The building looks luxurious, but cleanliness had several problems. The elevators by reception smelled awful, and the hallways had a strange odor too. I suspect the flooring may be the reason. My room was tidy and reasonably clean, but the area around the bathroom needed serious scrubbing. The kettle still had coffee in it, the pillows were uncomfortable, and the toilet walls hadn’t been properly scrubbed. The cleaning staff were friendly and did enough in general, but that deeper cleaning was missing. I was also surprised that a luxury hotel had an old TV rather than a smart one. The sewage smell was another major inconvenience. I was told there’s a sewage disposal system in the area where the hotel is located, and I hope they can find a solution.

The location is superb, and I liked the hotel and its rooms enough to want to return. But the air conditioning was out for five days, so we had to leave. While we waited, there wasn’t much guidance or any fans.

Clean, safe, splendid, and scenic.
