For what you pay, I think Hotel Kamal is very good value. It’s centrally located, the staff are helpful and courteous, breakfast is good, and the pool is lovely and peaceful. It isn’t heated, but the weather is hot. We’ve stayed twice. The rooms are a little old-fashioned and could use renovation, but they’re spotlessly clean and the beds are comfortable. You could choose a more modern all-inclusive with buffets and all the extras, but it would cost much more. That choice is yours. I can’t agree with some of the negative reviews here.

The location worked well, with easy access to a cab and lots of places to eat just a few minutes away. There’s a nice pool with plenty of sunbeds. Breakfast was basic but fine. Winter was not too bad, though without air conditioning I imagine it could get uncomfortable in summer.

For about €20, we got a bed for the night almost in the center of Agadir. That was the one good point, and it’s cheap for a reason. Our first room didn’t have a double bed. The second did, but even the man showing us around agreed it smelled like something had died there. The third didn’t smell that bad, but I’m not sure it had been cleaned in months. Under the rug beside the bed was something that looked like a blood stain. We didn’t try the food, but if the kitchen is like the rest of the building, anyone eating there is braver than me. The pool was a strange shade of green, with rust stains across the walls, so we didn’t use it. Hotel Kamal looked like it was built in the 70s and hadn’t been updated since. The corridors gave me strong Shining vibes. If you’re hiding from the popo or people you borrowed money from, maybe nobody will look here. Otherwise, take an indrive up the coast to Taghazout or Anza, spend €10 more, and stay in a beautiful hostel with breakfast, a rooftop terrace, and a five-minute walk to incredible beaches.

The staff were very nice and spoke English, French, and Darija. They gave five-star service in a two-star hotel. The bathrooms were very outdated and hard to shower in, while the beds were uncomfortable and the pillows lumpy.

The room felt neglected from the start: it was dark and musty, and spiders had settled in around the bed, apparently more comfortable than we were. The sun chairs by the pool were dirty, and we didn’t feel like using them. We’d booked a night hoping for a relaxing poolside escape, but it felt more like an accidental stay at a roadside inn left in the past. The stove and sink were rusty, as if mold was the only thing to have touched them since the 80s. In the bathroom were two random glasses, a tiny 2x1 cm soap bar that seemed more symbolic than useful, and towels with ripped, frayed edges that looked like they used to be white. The TV sat on a table barely 40 cm high, too small for it, with one leg hanging over the edge. It looked like a toddler could knock it over with one gentle nudge. Practical and safe. Those sheets look like bad news too. Read the comments about bed bugs. It was a night to remember for all the wrong reasons. I wouldn’t wish the stay on anyone who cares about comfort, cleanliness, or working Wi-Fi.
