It's a family run hostel with a few volunteers, and everyone we met was lovely. The place has a relaxed, intimate feel, so it was easy to make friends, unlike the bigger, busier, more commercial hostels. We found the dorm beds properly comfortable, and the hot shower was incredible. The price was very reasonable too. Get the included breakfast if you can, it's delicious and generous. The hostel is tucked away from Fez's busiest streets, near the bus and taxi rank, and you can walk to the central medina and tanneries. It's at the top of the medina 'bowl', rather than down at the bottom, so the Roof Terrace has an amazing view. I imagine it would be a bit cooler up there in summer.

I came away feeling that trust had been broken. I was contacted on the morning I arrived and told that the hostel I'd booked, also owned by Dar Naima, was being renovated, so I'd be moved to Dar Naima. The owner seemed arrogant and acted as if I was expected to accept, with no choice. There was no chance to get a refund or discuss the change. A road or riad may be a family home, but while guests are there, it's their home too, and having a say matters. The room itself was fine and had air conditioning, which was much needed in Fez. The location is in the upper medina. The riad was also being renovated, so there was construction noise, supposedly because it was "low season". The shower was barely warm, mostly cold. As a vegetarian who doesn't eat eggs, I found breakfast was basically bread and sweet things like jam and honey. I did enjoy the coffee and orange juice.

The location is excellent, and the atmosphere is nice. Service was attentive, and breakfast was good, though eating it on the terrace might feel cold in winter. The rooms and beds are comfortable and everything was very clean, but a four person room feels cramped for everyone. Like many riads, it can be a little noisy since the rooms open onto the main hall.

Breakfast on the terrace was incredible, especially with the sun and the view. The house is beautiful, with a great panoramic view from the roof, and it's right in the Medina. A very good hostel, completely recommended.

We had a wonderful weekend at Dar Naima. The Dar is beautiful, and the terrace views are incredible. The location is very good too, and the staff were kind and really helpful.
