Crocro Surf House

The meals were great. If sweet breakfast isn't your thing, you can bring your own toppings. Marouane gave excellent surfing lessons, keeping an eye on everyone and offering specific pointers that helped when we tried them out. The hostel doesn't match European standards, but at this price I wasn't expecting it to, so I didn't take points off for that.

The homemade Moroccan food was amazing, and the staff looked after the place so well that I felt at home. Marwan was a lovely surf instructor, patient and encouraging, and by the end of the week my surfing had improved a lot. I'd definitely recommend it.

The rooftop was where our group spent most of our downtime, relaxing and playing games, and I was lucky to meet some lovely fellow travellers. The food was amazing, especially the home-cooked breakfasts and dinners. Lunch was mostly sandwiches and nothing special, but the cook always made me a vegetarian meal when she prepared meat. I also really enjoyed the daily yoga flows with Youness, who adjusted each session to our mood and energy. I spent 8 days at CroCro Surf in Tamaraght. The people were welcoming, and Hanane was always ready to help with whatever I needed. The simple hostel had what I needed, though the bathrooms could use some work because of a very odd smell. The surf part disappointed me a little. The teams change, so each group's experience can be different. Our teacher, Amien, was a great person but not that good at teaching. He often left us alone at the beach and got distracted quickly. The waves weren't great that week, but even on days when surfing might have been better, he wasn't much help. I enjoyed my stay, though I would have enjoyed it more with a better surf instructor.

The other guests were friendly and made me feel at ease, even though I was probably the oldest person there. Smail and Marouane made sure we had the equipment we needed and kept an eye on us while surfing at the beach, which was fun. It was my first retreat and my introduction to surfing culture, and the staff and volunteers were a great team. The accommodation was more basic than I expected, though I guess that's normal for hostels.
