Htel Dar Terrae

This was easily the worst hotel stay I’ve had. The staff were very rude and dishonest. They demanded 100 dirhams to carry my bags to the bus stop without agreeing on it beforehand, then threatened to throw my luggage away when I questioned the charge. Completely unacceptable. The room was in bad condition too. The bedsheets smelled terrible, and the breakfast was among the worst I’ve had. I strongly advise people to avoid this place.

A cozy, lovely riad with plenty of room, right in the heart of the Medina. We had a really nice stay and would come back.

I asked for the cheapest room since I was backpacking, and stayed one night after a friend recommended the hotel. The ceiling was already dripping from condensation, about once an hour, and the outlet crackled when I plugged in my charger. I worried the adapter could break or start a fire, so I left it unused and tried to sleep through the ceiling issue. By morning, the leak had become constant. I filmed it and counted around two drops every 30 seconds. The paint was peeling too, with flakes landing on the bed and floor. I asked at breakfast about compensation and was told to talk to the manager, who I hadn't seen before. I requested two-thirds of the room cost back. When she arrived, she said I should have asked to move rooms when the problem started, so a refund wasn't possible. She even suggested I call the police. I didn't want to argue, especially with a bus to catch, and agreed to leave. Then she started yelling at me. My request may have annoyed her, but I think an apology should have come first. I've been traveling for a month, and this was the worst lodging experience I've had, the worst experience of my life.

The service was really nice, and our little room was cute, with a super comfortable bed. Breakfast was mixed: the juice, tea, and honey were delicious, while the bread was pretty basic. We ate on a sunny terrace, which made for a lovely stay.
