La Casa del Mar

We were woken by music in the night a couple of times. Sound carries easily between the many floors, though the inside does block most of the noise from outside. The rooftop terrace is a nice extra, but its lights didn't seem to work, so we couldn't use it after dark as we'd planned. The location is right in the busy narrow streets, great for exploring, though less suited to anyone wanting quiet or bringing a rental car. We stopped at Casa del Mar midway through our bikepacking trip between Agadir and Marrakesh, returning along the coast. The staff kindly let us keep our bikes upstairs in our room, which was great. Our room was spacious enough for two good-sized beds, as expected for a triple. There was also a small mezzanine with a 4ft mattress that was comfortable. The bathroom was clean and practical, with a strong hot shower. Breakfast came with fresh juice, mint tea, and assorted traditional baked goods.

La Casa del Mar was comfortable, and I’d happily recommend it. The room really did look like the photos, which is unusual in Essaouira, and the rooftop was quiet with a small ocean view. Arabic or French may be useful, but I got by fine thanks to the very friendly staff.

We liked our stay in a room on the top level. The staff were wonderful, sincere, friendly, and helpful. Breakfast was made fresh on site each day, and we could eat it on the top terrace. They also cleaned the rooms daily. There was lots of light, and you could hear the ocean. Privacy was a real issue. The windows had to stay open for the heat, so the neighbor could see right in. The bathroom had no door or wall, so make sure you're comfortable sharing everything with whoever you're traveling with. There were no toiletries like shampoo or body wash, and the small soap bar wasn't enough. Our room also smelled strongly of septic from the shower pipe. We covered it, which helped.

The terrace view is spectacular, and the staff were very friendly with good service. The room and bed were spacious. It's right by the sea and only a few minutes from anywhere in the Medina. Highly recommended.
