Nora made me feel at home right away. Her goodbye was, “this is your home,” and she helped me a lot with finding the hidden gems of Essaouira. I’d gladly return for that level of hospitality. My room was wonderfully spacious for a solo traveller, though the bath water took a long time to get hot. The location is prime, just around the corner from the main eateries and markets, and not far down a dark alley at night.

Karim looked after us so well. We were travelling with someone who uses a wheelchair, and they were very accommodating. The traditional breakfast was really good too. Great Riad.

I had a really bad experience here and wouldn’t say it’s worth staying. The breakfast was very skimpy, and the coffee had no taste. The room was small, with a tiny, very old bathroom that had no racks or shelves. The mattress and pillows felt like rocks, and the bed was uncomfortable and noisy.

Being right in the medina of Essaouira means shops and restaurants are close, and we had one of the better breakfasts of our time in Morocco. It’s a lovely, quaint hotel in a Riad. The historic building does mean the rooms are small, and we struggled to find space to open a suitcase. The bathroom smelled a little and the water pressure was terrible. Still, that’s part of the charm, so don’t let it put you off.

It’s easy to spend ages in the Riad Chakir Mogador’s common areas, looking at all the thoughtful decorations. The place itself is breathtaking, and our room was lovely and clean. Breakfast was fresh, and the hosts and staff were incredibly welcoming and kind. We had a great stay and would definitely recommend it in the Essaouira medina.
