Villa De Lo

The staff were very pleasant, and this was a nice riad just inside the Medina walls, close to the sea. Breakfast was pretty average: fruit, jam, butter, a small cream cheese, bread and pastries, with no yoghurt, olives or honey. The beds are quite small, and there's no place to put your luggage. The rooms on the top floor get more light. We also didn't get the couple of water bottles in the room that we've found in most riads we've stayed at.

The receptionist wouldn't let me check out, even after I found dust and mould covering the desk. I wiped it, showed him, and he just said, “we cleaned”. I had to leave for safety reasons and book somewhere else. I'm severely allergic to mould, and I had a serious reaction. It took over a week for the coughing to stop and for me to recover. The place was uninhabitable, stinky and mouldy. The bedding and furniture looked like they hadn't been changed in hundreds of years. I've raised the condition of this property with the travel agency, credit card company and relevant authorities. It has to be shut down, and the people running it held accountable for the severe unsanitary conditions they dare to call a 4-star hotel.

The bathroom really let us down for the price. The shower didn't work properly and the hot water wouldn't stay constant. There were dead flies in the tub when we arrived, and white deposits on the faucet showed the sink hadn't been cleaned properly. The shower gel and shampoo came in very cheap bottles that were extremely hard to open and close. Worse, the cleaning lady left our door unlocked during the day. Luckily, nothing was missing when we came back from our day trip. The hotel itself was absolutely stunning, with incredible woodwork, an atrium and a terrace. The bedding was comfortable, staff were really nice, and breakfast was generous and good.

The service was great and breakfast amazing. We were right in the centre, three minutes on foot from the ocean and main square. The old-style rooms and patio were gorgeous, and the rooftop terrace had a view I'll truly never forget. I couldn't recommend it more.
