Hotel De La Paix

It looked good, but comfort was lacking. There was no shower curtain, so every shower flooded the bathroom and created a fall risk. I slipped a few times, though thankfully I didn’t fall. When we asked at reception for shampoo, they said they don’t provide it. Breakfast wasn’t good either, with stale pastries and a need to ask for a second serving of eggs.

The stay at Hotel La Paix ended with a very upsetting discovery. Some money went missing from my backpack while our room was being cleaned. I’d had 210 euros in cash, three €20 notes and three €50 notes. After leaving the hotel, I noticed all three €50 notes were gone, a total of 150 euros. My backpack with my documents and cash had been left in the room. I can’t prove who took it, only that the money disappeared during our stay. Earlier, we’d had room problems: we were given a triple room prepared for four people, but reception moved us after we reported it. I also reported leaks from the toilet and sink, which were fixed while we were out. I’m writing to warn other travelers not to leave cash or valuables in their rooms. Very disappointing.

How do places like this keep their doors open? It needs a full renovation.

Our room was badly run down and had a lot of mold. Wi-Fi only worked in the lobby, while downstairs there was a bar with 'working Girls' that felt pretty shady. The air conditioning rattled in an unsettling way, and duct tape covered the room vents instead of a proper repair. Even on a low budget, I wouldn’t recommend this. Being poor is nothing to be ashamed of, but being dirty is.
