I was given a different room at a different hotel after arriving, with no warning beforehand. I’d booked a specific room, but the owner said it wasn’t available for some reason and moved us to Riad Sheryn. The room there wasn’t at all like what we’d booked. We were in a foreign country and didn’t know much of the local language, so we felt we had little choice but to accept. Looking at negative reviews on Booking, TripAdvisor, and Google, there seems to be a recurring pattern. I’m sure most guests get the accommodation they booked, but it seems this happens occasionally. It felt like a scam, and booking here is a roll of the dice.

Being in Fes was especially memorable thanks to Nour, who made us feel like we were staying with a second family. He helped with meals at the Riad, local guides, airport and train station transfers, and even invited us to a local art exhibit because we were interested in the culture. The staff were friendly and happy to help, and the food came promptly and tasted great. The renovated Riad is lovely, with family art and handcrafted walls. We were only steps from the blue gate and Medina, with restaurants and shops nearby. When we come back to Fes, we’ll stay here again. One thing to know about the city: Fes is considered Morocco’s spiritual center, and the people take a lot of pride in it. It felt much older and more relaxed than Marrakech, with a different atmosphere and less focus on commerce, and more to experience in terms of history and Moroccan culture.

Faedwa and Miriam were hospitable and cooked us a great dinner one night, while Hamid helped with all sorts of things, from negotiating an issue with a seller to cleaning up broken glass on the rooftop patio. The staff were exceptional. We rented the whole Dar through Airbnb at a really great price, and had two bedrooms we never even used. The house and fixtures are beautiful, and it’s very conveniently located near Bab Boujloud. We didn’t realize there would be staff on site, so as Americans with limited language skills, we were a bit surprised to find other people around. They were all fantastic, though, and I’m not complaining. Just know that booking the whole Dar doesn’t mean complete privacy. Abdenour was an accessible, helpful host who arranged airport transport and an official guide for us. Shout out to Hammed, who was easily the most informative tour guide EVER. I’d definitely recommend staying here in Fes.

The terrace has great views, and the room and riad were clean and charming. The host and team were kind, friendly, and helpful. It’s a relaxing retreat close to the blue gate in the heart of Fes el bali, but tucked away from the Medina’s chaos.

The owner and staff were kind and very helpful, and the tea was the best I had in Fes. Breakfast came with plenty to eat, including coffee, milk, juice, bread, jams, and butter. They also serve dinner for an extra charge, and it’s a good chance to try traditional dishes. A wonderful Dar in Fes.
