Riad Haj Palace

The first thing to know is that you’ll hear the five loud prayers through the day and night wherever you stay in the Medina. If you’re a light sleeper, bring earplugs. That aside, Omar and his family made us feel at home from the start. We arrived close to midnight, and they still arranged an airport taxi that walked us straight to the Riad, which we never would have found on our own. The place is colourful and cosy, with fresh linens, a very comfortable bed, and a hot, powerful shower. Breakfast was included and tasted as good as it looked, and the Hamman was well worth it for relaxing after time in the Medina. For our early flight, Omar and Abdul printed our boarding cards, booked a taxi, and packed breakfast to take with us. They couldn’t have done more, especially Omar. I can’t wait to return.

We had a room different from the one we booked, possibly because we added another night later. When we asked, they offered to move us back, but the room we had was nice and we didn’t think changing was worth the hassle. Its bathroom was a little dirty, though. Even so, I’d still give the stay 5/5 because so much else was great. The hosts were sweet and helpful, and the colourful riad sits in the middle of the medina. It’s tucked away, so ask them to meet you at the nearest gate or parking area, the Fez medina can feel overwhelming. Breakfast was good, and they kindly packed some for our early departure. We also tried the hammam. It’s basic and has no frills, so first-timers may prefer another place, but experienced hammam goers should enjoy the service. Wafa worked hard on us and we came out squeaky clean.

After long days walking through the medina in blazing sun, it was great to come back to a quiet, spotless, comfortable room. It was spacious and cosy, with a huge bathroom, and the AC worked perfectly. The riad itself is lovely, well cared for, and in a great location. Samira, Mohammed, Abdul, and everyone else made us feel at home and checked that we had what we needed. The food was delicious at breakfast and dinner, and we booked a really nice medina tour through them too. One of our best stays ever, we hope to come back soon.

Breakfast was different each day, with lots of tasty Moroccan treats. Everyone on staff was wonderful, but Omar especially made us feel at home. They treated us like royalty. We had the best time at Haj Palace!
