Riad Laayoun

The person in charge of the riad was incredibly helpful and kind, and the entrance hall was beautiful. But our standard room on the top floor was tiny and incredibly hot. The AC was right above the bed and blew straight at our heads, so we couldn't use it at night. The bathroom was dirty and very old, with a pipe for a shower. At breakfast on the rooftop, which was barely covered, we sweated like hell.

Getting around the maze-like medina was easier with the staff's helpful, detailed directions. The riad is beautiful and well maintained, with a great location. The dinner was one of the best I've had in Fes. It's near the public car park if you're driving, as well as the taxi drop-off and pick-up points at the place rcif. The shower was strong and hot, always a big deal for tired travelers.

Jean and Mohamed were the nicest hosts we've ever met. They went out of their way to help us, sometimes even against their own interests. Mohamed spent half an hour drawing tour maps and making plans for our day when we arrived, and they kept checking that we were having a good time. We turned up late for breakfast on the terrace, which has an amazing view of Fes, but Moh was still waiting for us. When we got a notice about a strike at Moroccan airports, Jean immediately said we could cancel the rest of our nights to fly home earlier. The strike was later canceled, and we made a last-minute decision to visit the desert. Jean spent a long time talking with different parties to help arrange it. We're very grateful to the people from Laayoun.

A lovely, well-preserved traditional Riad, just a few minutes' walk from Rcif, the square at the heart of the medina. Simo's hospitality was above and beyond.
