Riad Misbah

The location was one of the easiest to manage among the riads in Fes. It’s right at the start of the medina, only a short walk from where cabs drop you in the Batha area, and close to cafe cinema, restaurants, the UNESCO blue gate, souks, and the mederasa. It felt very safe, too. We were lucky to end up here, and I’d choose riad misbah again. The building is stunning in person, much more like a mansion than a typical riad. My sister and I were surprised by how beautiful it was. We stayed in the spacious, comfortable Santo Domingo room, with AC that was a lifesaver in the heat, three windows for fresh air, a large bathroom with a bidet, a roomy closet, and a safe. Upstairs there’s a lounge filled with interesting art, and the terrace looks out over the medina and mountains. Marco & Fiola were among the kindest, humblest, friendliest hosts we’ve met. They made us feel at home and shared advice about food, prices, taxis, places to visit, safety, and health. Marco even showed us how to get around the medina and guided us to the blue gate, mederasa, and cafe clock without us asking. The maid and watchmen were sweet and nice as well. We’ll remember the time with them more than any souvenirs we bought in Fes. Breakfast began at 8am and was delicious: fresh prewashed apples, plums, grapes and other fruit, breads, butter, Fiola’s homemade jams, fresh OJ, a slice of bologne, cheese, crepe, and coffee or mint tea. Fiola is a wonderful cook, and her fresh mint tea was the best we had in Morroco, even after traveling to Marrakech.

Walking in felt like entering a museum. This was easily the most special place we stayed on the whole trip.

The host was friendly, the rooms were clean, and the riad was beautiful. It was easy to find, too.
