Riad Carina

We were very disappointed. The reception staff were cold and unhelpful, offering little beyond a fake smile and showing no interest in making us feel welcome. It felt like they saw guests only as a source of income. They charged double the city tax listed on Booking and paid at other riads for the same number of nights. Each time we went out, we had to hand over our key and wait outside the locked front door, sometimes for several minutes before anyone opened it. Breakfast was listed as included in our Booking price, but when we asked if it could be served earlier for an excursion, they said it was actually just a goodwill gesture and refused. The shower had very weak pressure and barely any hot water. It felt like a tourist trap, and we wouldn’t recommend this place.

The house and neighborhood were highlights. The area is friendly, and the staff were efficient and welcoming. During my stay in 10/23 at Riad Carina, I found the architecture especially interesting: one courtyard is Berber style, another Moorish, and the third combines both. There are three distinctive patio courtyards, including the ‘dwydia’, originally a rental unit that has since been joined back to the rest of the house. It’s a beautiful house, typical of larger riads built around 1900. After staying here and at its sister properties, Riad Viva and Riad Diana, I can recommend all three.

After a tiring trip back from the Sahara, we had to book late at night because our previous riad had been such a disappointment. Riad Carina turned out to be a lovely surprise. Said welcomed us in the lobby and was a really good person and a professional. The room was great, the rooftop pool superb, and breakfast amazing. Definitely recommend it. The rooms are spacious, and housekeeping was quick to tidy and replenish things. Staff were very friendly and welcoming, and breakfast each morning was really nice. The rooftop terrace was lovely, sheltered and covered so we could still sit outside in the rain. We’d definitely stay again.
