I chose this Riad a couple of weeks before my trip after carefully considering all the many good options. Even on the plane to Marrakesh, I was messaging the accommodation about the airport pickup they were supposed to arrange. When I arrived alone as a woman, nobody was there. Then my booking was suddenly cancelled through Booking.com. I had no transfer or room, poor internet for making new arrangements, and no proper reason was given. I feel deeply disappointed and regret choosing this Riad. Guests are people making plans and putting effort into a visit to a new country, not just bookings that can be erased with one button. Trust matters. They even messaged me that this had happened with other bookings. I really hope they handle it more thoughtfully next time, communicate properly, and don't leave people on their own. I'd advise choosing one of the many other options.

Ahmed, the manager, was excellent: genuinely welcoming and hospitable, and he helped us with taxis and printed our boarding passes. The Riad was very clean and inviting, and the rooms had lots of lovely decorative details. There was an electrical fault in the room that seemed dangerous, and we've since reported it to management. Getting to the Riad can be difficult, especially at night, when some roads close.

The riad was peaceful and charming, and the room was good value. It’s a little farther from Al Fna Mosque, which helped keep the neighborhood quiet and relaxing. On our first trip to Morocco, Ahmed and Khaled made us feel so welcome. They were kind and helpful, and their hospitality will be hard to match elsewhere on our journey. We also loved dinner here, one of the best meals we’ve had. We had a wonderful stay.

We felt at home after just one night here. Ahmed looked after us brilliantly, and the room had everything we needed. When it got cold, we asked for a heater and it arrived right away. He also walked us in and out of the medina to our cab. Breakfast on the terrace was such a nice memory. After checkout, Faizad kindly let us stay longer and enjoy the place. Everyone made us feel welcome.

Our plans for a business trip to Marrakech were still up in the air, so we booked Riad Abbassia at the last minute. The photos showed beautiful interiors but didn’t give us much sense of the place. The manager offered to collect us from the airport the night before we arrived, but we had a car. You can’t drive up to the riad itself. There’s parking close by for about 20p a day, then a two-minute walk through the neighborhood. At first, coming from European hotels, we found the area a little intimidating. By the end of our eight days, though, we felt completely differently. It’s an authentic part of Marrakech, without the tourist veneer, and the local people were friendly, welcoming, and accepting. The area is dusty despite people’s efforts to keep it clean, and it takes a while to walk into the medina, so I’d give the location four stars. From the terraces you can see the city and the Atlas mountains. Breakfast on the roof terrace, especially at sunrise, was a favorite. The riad’s interior is stunning. Ahmed greeted us with Moroccan tea and showed us to our ground-floor suite overlooking the courtyard. It was beautifully furnished, spotless, cool, quiet, and private, even in such a central spot. The whole place felt secluded and restful. The staff were attentive and helpful while respecting our privacy, and at times it felt like we had the riad to ourselves. The room maids also made a different, clever little artwork in the bedroom and bathroom each day. We could choose breakfast in the courtyard, dining room, main terrace, or upper terrace. We usually picked the upper one for its view of the sunrise. We had dinner at the riad twice, and both meals were outstanding, made with fresh ingredients in authentic Moroccan style. I regret that we didn’t eat with our hosts more often. It was some of the best food we’ve had anywhere. Ahmed and Khalid deserve a special mention. They did everything they could to make our stay amazing. We’ll be back.
