It’s a tidy, peaceful spot inside the Medina, with clean rooms that have a traditional look. Breakfast in the patio was a lovely experience, and spending time in the pool was relaxing. Good value for the money. One thing to know: apart from the manager, the staff don’t speak English, so it’s a good chance to practise your French.

The riad is beautiful and well located, and the kitchen and hamman staff are lovely. But management has been absent and unfriendly, and so unresponsive that they haven’t been able to help me plan my stay or make arrangements. I’m hoping to visit Marrakesh this July, but haven’t heard back from the manager. I’ve sent five emails, both directly and through their website, and called as well. I speak French, but was still told to send an email. I’ve stayed at Dar Doukkala twice over the years, and hope someone follows up on these concerns, because the place has real potential.

The owners were ready to help with anything and never made us feel crowded. We had great rooms, clean and well equipped, and the food was fantastic. The rooftop terrace was wonderful for breakfast or maybe a bottle of wine in the evening. A real oasis in a manic city. I’d recommend this road to everyone.
