The riad itself is beautiful, which makes the bad experience with the staff even more of a shame. We stayed for our last night in Marrakech. When we arrived, nobody was there to greet us, and some locals who tried to help ended up bringing the night shift staff member over from a cafe. They then asked us for £3 each as a tip. We refused because we had no cash. When I asked the staff member for help, he said, “what happens in the street is not our problem,” which made the whole situation really uncomfortable. Later, he urged us to book an airport transfer through him because it was safer. We paid 15 EUR. The next morning, when we went out with him to meet the driver, he kept saying the service needed a tip. Our flight was early, and after the driver was over 30 minutes late, we said we’d take a taxi so we wouldn’t miss it. The staff member then asked for 5 EUR for the inconvenience. It felt like he was taking the piss. We ended up getting a taxi for 10 EUR. ADMIN, if you’re reading this, please have more capable staff on the night shift. This experience tainted my memory of Marrakech.

The staff were warm and helpful, which made our stay even nicer. The riad itself was beautiful and clean, in a convenient spot about a 20-minute walk from Jemaa el-Fna square. We only had breakfast there, but it was delicious. If we come back to Marrakech, we’ll definitely stay here again.

A lovely rooftop terrace, a mini pool, and comfortable bedding all added to our stay. The historic residence has been renovated in traditional Moroccan style and sits in a peaceful setting. There’s a qualified Moroccan cook, and the butler was attentive, quick to respond, professional, and well-connected with suppliers and services. Long live Morocco! 😉
