Riad Zidania

The main entrance stayed locked most of the time I was there, and guests aren’t given a key, so you need to knock to get back in. That may suit people who value the extra security, but it limits how freely you can come and go. Aside from that, everything was great. The riad was well maintained, with clean, spacious rooms and nicely designed shared spaces. It’s also very close to Meknes attractions, and one of the best riads I’ve stayed in Morocco.

The booking was marked as a “no show” and cancelled, even though I’d discussed the situation with the riad beforehand. We couldn’t reach them by phone. After a long conversation when we arrived, they let us stay, but gave us a different room from the one we had booked. Once that was sorted out, breakfast was good and the staff were friendly and helpful.

The bathroom was so cramped that only one person could fit. The rooms were small, all above the first floor, and there’s no elevator or help with luggage. It was stuffy and very hot, with no ventilation. The small pool was completely green, more like a tub. Staff weren’t friendly or helpful.

The Moroccan style is everywhere, with art in every corner. It made me want to wear a Caftan and take pictures all around the place. We stayed one night at Riad Zidania, and it was exceptional: very clean and smelled great. The staff were kind and attentive. I highly recommend it.
