The room at the top spared us the breakfast noise, since the ground floor rooms open straight onto the courtyard where breakfast is served. It did mean quite a climb back up after a long day. The riad is well placed toward the ocean side of the medina, and the seafront walk is well worth doing. Our main issues were inside the room. There were plenty of lamps, but every bulb was so dim that it was hard to see at night, even in the bathroom. The bathroom wasn't enclosed: an openwork screen separated it from the room, with the bed right against it, so there was no privacy and a nighttime toilet flush would wake the other person. The shower had only a partial glass screen and no door. Its stall was small, and we got water all over the floor every time. The staff grew on us after the first day. The woman in charge seemed rather forbidding when we arrived, though perhaps using our rusty French helped her warm up. They were generally helpful, suggested a good restaurant for dinner, and made the booking for us. I'd call this a borderline three or four star stay.

We'd gladly come back to Riad Kalaa 2. Set among the Medina's whitewashed lanes and ornate wooden doors, it has a sunny courtyard and rooms with lovely decor. The breakfast was fabulous, with pastries, an omelette, coffee, yogurt, and fresh orange juice. Everyone was so welcoming and hospitable. We also had dinner at Riad Kalaa (1), only two minutes away. The meal was delicious: the lamb tajine and duo of fish both stood out, and dessert had a lovely sweet and savoury balance.

The decor throughout the hotel was beautiful, and breakfast was fresh and homemade each morning. It's within easy walking distance of the main sights and about a 20-minute walk from the train station. Staff were friendly and helpful, and I wish I could rate the stay higher, but we ran into several problems. We were charged more per night than the rate quoted, even after accounting for taxes. I kept pointing to the rate on my confirmation, but the person checking us in ignored it, said he'd look into the difference, and never came back with an explanation. In my view that was very unethical. When we checked out, another staff member asked me to pay again because the person who had taken our payment hadn't recorded it. Luckily I still had my receipt. That added to the frustration, and the staff only spoke French and Arabic. The junior suites on the ground floor were spacious, nice, and comfortable, though the beds were only average. One night at midnight, people talking loudly in the common area woke us up. They were using ordinary street voices, not keeping quiet for guests who were asleep. We stayed six nights during our Morocco trip.

Elallame was so patient with our nonexistent French and Arabic, and kindly spoke with us in English. The staff were pleasant and clearly cared about making us comfortable. We loved the distinctive, comfortable rooms and found the rooftop patio a peaceful place to unwind. In the old city, it's a beautiful spot, and breakfast was plentiful and fabulous. Highly recommend!

We loved the traditional Moroccan setting and the clever room design. The floors are somewhat open to one another, but the place was still fairly quiet, which matters a lot when you're trying to sleep. This hotel company has several locations in the Rabat Medina. At this one, the staff were consistently helpful and greeted us with warm smiles. They helped us get around the city and put us in touch with people who helped make our visit go well. The riad sits right inside the Medina, between the professional artisanal area and the shops selling more modern goods. Breakfast was offered every morning, and when we had time to eat, it was delicious, especially the fresh fruit and tea. There's also a lovely rooftop deck with a decent pool. We were there in February, so the weather wasn't right for using it, but I'm looking forward to trying it when we return to Morocco in warmer weather. My husband and I stayed here in February 2023 and were very impressed by the architecture. We're glad we found this place and recommend it highly.
