Riad Marhaba

Our Bahia room or suite was fabulous, and the hospitality was great. We didn’t eat at the riad, though we probably should have. We’d booked three nights as part of a short Morocco tour, then left early for Marrakesh because of the weather. I’d absolutely stay here again if I returned to Rabat. Rabat didn’t impress us as much as Marrakesh. It’s the capital and has some impressive buildings, but we didn’t find the same magic we’d felt inland. I’ve read some of the poor reviews and can’t understand them.

Ants were all over the room, including the bed, table, sofa, and pillows. They got onto our clothes and bodies, so relaxing was impossible. We asked for insect spray and cleaned the bed ourselves, then used our own alcohol spray to make it feel sanitary. There was a strong rusty smell when we entered, and the place didn’t seem clean. The sofa and cushions smelled strongly of sweat, and the sheets didn’t smell fresh, which left us wondering if they’d been changed. The bathroom smelled bad, and the tap water left a rusty odor on our hands. For the high price, this was nowhere near worth it. One of the most uncomfortable stays we’ve had, and it ruined our time in Rabat. I absolutely wouldn’t recommend it.

Booking.com made a mistake, and the service said I’d get a refund, but it never came. I paid in Euros, while they say they can only refund me in Dirhams. I’ve contacted them several times without getting an answer. I lost time and energy trying to get my money back, so I can’t recommend this place. I’d be glad to update the review if they’re willing to speak with their customer.

The rooftop terrace has a lovely view over the old town, and the rooms have original furnishings that give them a traditional riad feel. Hidden away in the middle of the Medina, this place was a treasure. The service was great, the owner tried to meet every guest’s wishes, and dinner and breakfast were made with fresh local food. Thanks for everything, I’d wholeheartedly recommend staying here.
