Dinner by the open fire and breakfast were both lovely, and the upper terrace looks out over a lush green valley. We found this place in Happy Valley and were glad we did. The French owner was keen to give good service, and our room was spacious and very comfortable. Dinner, bed and breakfast were at a very reasonable rate.

Ali made us feel at ease right away, offering tea and sweets and speaking foreign languages easily. The guest house sits at the entrance to Tabant, with parking for cars and motorcycles and CCTV outside. Its traditional entrance, rooms and dining room fit the valley and give a sense of Amazigh life in antiquity. From the balcony, you get a lovely mountain panorama. I think this place deserves to be among the must-visit guest houses. It’s a peaceful spot to get away from the stress of big cities. Tabant is very different from Morocco’s tourist cities. Amazigh people live here with dignity and don’t tend to hold out their hands for charity. Visiting during the apple harvest in the Ait Bougmez valley would be worthwhile.

The patio has wonderful views, and the place was very quiet. It seemed to get little traffic, but it was clean and felt safe. The couple running it spoke enough English, and dinner was acceptable. There’s a nice little town nearby, and we enjoyed walking through the fields after dinner.

The rooms are spacious, clean and beautifully decorated, and the food was amazing. Dinner was a huge vegetable tajine and a chicken one, both really tasty. Breakfast had everything we wanted, including cheese, eggs, pancakes, two kinds of marmalade, honey, two teas, coffee, milk, fresh juice and chocolate powder. Ali made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived at Da Si Hamou for one night in mid-April 2018. He even offered us tea while we were still deciding whether to stay, and said it was on him either way. That evening he suggested hikes for the next day and made the dining area cozy with a fire. When the weather turned bad, he helped us work out our onward journey and gave us his number in case we had trouble finding the way. The room was a bit chilly, and the shower had low water pressure. There’s no Wi-Fi. For 4G, get a Maroc Telecom SIM card, since inwi doesn’t work in the valley. Thanks for a wonderful stay, Ali!
