Auberge Restaurant Le Safran Taliouine

The coffee was good, but prices seemed high compared with other cafés in town. We paid 20DH for two café au lait and two Magnum bars, then left a 10DH tip. The server seemed not to understand and took 40DH instead of 30DH, which we let go since it still seemed very cheap. As we were about to drive off, he knocked on the window and asked for another 60DH just for the ice cream. That brought it to 100DH total, including a 20DH tip for basically no service.

Dinner was tasty, and the service was friendly.

We arrived at the last minute and they still made us a great omelette. The rooms were clean and the beds comfortable, just what you need for a safe stop on the way. It's a welcoming, basic auberge, and all the travelers and hikers passing through feel like a good sign.

The location is lovely and makes a good starting point for a hike, and the price is cheap. It's a big hotel just outside Taliouine. Rooms are spacious and colorful, with nice beds, but only okay overall and in need of plenty of maintenance. There were loose wires, broken furniture, and no hot shower. Some restaurant staff can seem really unfriendly if you don't speak their language. The guy in the hotel's blue classic outfit, though, is always really nice. Since there aren't many options in Taliouine, it's probably worth staying here. Keep expectations modest and you can have a nice stay.
